Australia’s biggest summer cruise season kicks off today with the arrival of Princess Cruises’ Sun Princess in Brisbane. The 1,990-passenger ship then departs on a sold out 42-night round-trip voyage to China and Japan. Returning to Brisbane on November 2, Sun Princess will embark on a series of roundtrip cruises from Brisbane and Sydney to New Zealand, the Fijian islands and along Australia’s north coast.
But this is just the beginning.
Some of the world’s biggest ships are heading our way. From Carnival Australia’s stable, Cunard’s 3,056-passenger Queen Mary 2 and Princess Cruises’ 2,670-passenger Diamond Princess, weighing in at 151,400 tons and 115,875 tons respectively, will be the largest cruise ships ever to be based here for the season.
Carnival Australia will be deploying 19 ships to make a scheduled 300 calls in 24 different Australian ports and will be carrying more than 310,000 passengers in Australian waters.
