One of Britain’s most well known performers, Dame Shirley Bassey DBE (pictured left courtesy of Mary McCartney), is set to take on the honour of naming P&O Cruises UK’s newest ship, Adonia, on May 21 in Southampton.
“I have had the most exciting career imaginable, but to be invited to be Godmother to a cruise ship is something very special and very personal,” said Dame Shirley of the appointment.
With capacity for 710 passengers, Adonia is much smaller than her predecessors in the P&O Cruises UK fleet, meaning she can visit ports that bigger ships cannot, plus she’s an exclusively adults only ship.
Adonia’s christening will be held on board her top deck while she is berthed at Southampton, with more than 500 guests invited to celebrate the occasion before her maiden voyage to the Mediterranean the following day.
