New ship Costa Favolosa is named in Trieste.
Costa Cruises newest ship, the 114,500-ton, 3,780-passenger Costa Favolosa, was named in a spectacular ceremony in Trieste on July 2.
The theme of the day was ‘Tribute to Beauty’ and the celebrations coincided with the 150th anniversary of Italy’s unification.
A host of Italian performers entertained the crowds, including pianist Ludovico Einaudi, Alessandro Rossi and students from the Ballet School of the La Scala Theatre Academy, while fairy-like acrobats engaged in dazzling feats above the crowds.
As with all ship christenings, the ship’s godmother, Italian actress Margareth Madé, released a bottle of Aneri prosecco that crashed against the shiny new hull before a fireworks show, in the colours of the Italian flag, dazzled guests and locals.
Now the largest ship flying the Italian flag, Costa Favolosa features verandah suites with jacuzzis, an impressive Samsara Spa, and a Grand Prix driving simulator.
Today, she departs on her maiden cruise – a four-day voyage from Venice.
What kind of entertainment would you organise for a naming ceremony?
