Viking River Cruises names latest ship and a cruise innovator is remembered.
“May you begin your cruising days under a rainbow and sunny skies, and may you follow that rainbow around the bends in the river to the pot of gold.”
So said Viking Prestige’s godmother Janice Farrar-Titus as she handled the traditional godmother duty of breaking a champagne bottle over the new ship’s hull. Viking Prestige was named in a ceremony on July 1 in Amsterdam.
Viking River Cruises’ new ship’s godmother is the wife of Warren Titus, former president of P&O Cruises North America and founder of Royal Viking Line and Seabourn cruise lines. He had set excellent cruising standards to make luxury cruising popular and enjoyable for travelers. What made this day even more memorable was that this event would have been Mr. Titus’ 96th birthday.
Prestige departed for her maiden voyage, a 15-day Grand European Tour, on July 2. Her regular service begins on July 8 when she sets sail from Budapest to Nuremburg, visiting ports in Hungary, Austria and Germany.
Will you sail on Prestige during her 2012 season?
