They may be part of the same brand and at times built in each others image but the truth is ocean cruise ships from the same company rarely cross paths.
That’s why ship rendezvous, like the three Queens gathering in Southampton earlier this month, are quickly becoming historic moments in cruising.
These rare meetings attract hundreds of onlookers, who show up with their high-end cameras and give cruise lines the opportunity to showcase their ships.
We made a list of all upcoming rendezvous to help cruise fans be a part of the historic moments.
Sea Cloud windjammers
Sea Cloud Cruises’ two windjammer yachts – Sea Cloud and Sea Cloud II – will meet and sail together in the Canary Islands during November this year.
The meeting will take place on 14 November when the sister ships meet between Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
To commemorate the meeting, the two tall ships will hoist their sails and glide together in an epic display.
Royal Rendezvous in SydneyCunard is set to make its 175th a memorable occasion, with three ship rendezvous planned throughout 2015.
The first will take place in Sydney Harbour on 12 March with Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria.
The two ships will meet before the Queen Mary 2 departs the city on her 13-night circumnavigation of New Zealand.
Three Queens in Southampton
The line’s three Queens will reunite in Southampton again next year, when Cunard’s 175th celebrations officially on 3 May 2015.
Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria will sail into Southampton together and depart later that day in formation.
The three met in Southampton earlier this month to commemorate the ten year anniversary of Queen Mary 2.
Three Queens in Liverpool
If you miss the meeting in Sydney and Southampton, you could always head up Liverpool where the three Queens will meet again.
Cunard will salute its ‘spiritual home’ Liverpool with a three-day event from 24 to 26 May 2015.
The line’s current fleet will take part in the event, with Queen Mary 2 arriving first on 24 May for an overnight stay in the city.
The following morning Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria will join her. They will then line up on the River Mersey giving onlookers a chance to see all three ships in port at the same time.
Voyager-class gathering in SydneyAnother type of Royal Rendezvous will take place in Sydney Harbour next year, when Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas meet up for the first time in Sydney Harbour.
The meeting will be held on 28 November to commemorate Explorer’s inaugural season down under.
