Celebrity Summit guests injured in a bus excursion

An accident during a bus excursion in Tortola, British Virgin Island has injured 18 and killed two cruise passengers from the Celebrity Summit. The guests were visiting the port as part of their seven night cruise that left from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The bus was carrying guests to Cane Garden Bay beach in Tortola and lost control near the Cane Garden Bay Hill according to an article by Virgin Islands News Online. The guests are being treated at nearby hospital.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, owners of Celebrity Cruises, tweeted an official statement: “We are saddened to report the deaths of two Celebrity Summit guests after a local bus accident in Tortola. Several others are being treated.”

A statement was also released by the local government stating that the British Virgin Island Tourist Board is offering assistance to injured guests. “First responders, including the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, Fire and Rescue Department, (and) medical personnel were mobilised, along with members of the BVI Tourist Board, and cruise ship personnel from the Celebrity Summit cruise line, to provide assistance to the visitors involved.”

“The Government of the Virgin Islands expresses its deepest condolences and through the BVI Tourist Board, we are working to help those who have been affected. We take this opportunity to encourage the entire community, including our media partners, to be sensitive to the visiting families that have been affected,” said the statement from the Premier’s office.
