Guests travelling aboard Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 are in for luxury culinary experience in 2016 with the launch of their first Verandah restaurant. The debut of The Verandah on Queen Mary 2 completes the trilogy of fine dining experience aboard all three Cunard ships – Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria.

The Verandah opens in June next year, exactly 80 years after Cunard’s first Verandah Grill opened on Queen Mary in 1936. It will replace the Todd English restaurant onboard Queen Mary 2 after its major refurbishment in May-June 2016. Bringing flavours of French regional cooking with impeccable service, the Verandah will be available at a surcharge for lunch and dinner. The interiors will be set in a light, elegant dining room featuring a bar open for pre and post-dining drinks.

The first Verandah Grill hosted cruise line’s First Class passengers that included many famous name like Winston Churchill, Fred Astaire, Charlie Chaplin, Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo and Elizabeth Taylor. “The original Verandah Grills on Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth were nothing short of legendary in their day. They were the most exclusive dining rooms at sea, on a par with esteemed private clubs in London, New York and Paris,” said Cunard Director Angus Struthers.

“Today’s Verandah concept on our fleet aims to recreate that special ambience and is open to all passengers who want to enjoy a truly special lunch or dinner in an environment that heralds the golden age of ocean travel.”

Cunard has been sharing many videos on Queen Mary 2’s refit and launched a preview of The Verandah on their You Tube Channel with hashtag #QM2Remastered.
