The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has issued a warning to Australians to exercise a high degree of caution for France.

After last night’s terrorist attack in Nice which left over 80 people dead during Bastille Day celebrations, Smartraveller website shows every region is on high alert.

A number of river cruise lines like Avalon Waterways, Scenic, APT and Viking Cruises sail the Rhone River with Nice a major port of call.

Ocean cruise lines like Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, Disney Cruise Line, AIDA, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises and more are regular visitors to French ports.

“Every destination has risks and these change over time. It is critical that travellers read and subscribe to the travel advice on the Smartraveller website, no matter where they are travelling, how long they are travelling, or how many times they may have visited previously,” said Foreign Minister Julie Bishop today.

“To make informed decisions, travellers should subscribe to their desired destination the moment they start thinking about overseas travel. They can also follow Smartravellers update on Facebook and Twitter.”
